Parents and students,
 
Due to the scheduling of classes at all RISD campuses on the middle school and high school level, we are making the following change, effective immediately, through the LH Cluster Bands:
 

• All private lessons taken during band classes will be 25 minutes minimum, 30 minutes maximum when time allows.  The rate of $17 per lesson will remain intact
• Private lessons outside of band classes will be 30 minutes or an hour depending on what your child signs up for

Most classes on the secondary level are 50 minutes.  For a lesson teacher to teach during these times, we must make some concessions to fit their busy schedules and accommodate as many kids as we can. Thus, students taking lessons during the school day will receive their lesson, but it will not be a full 30 minutes, as the schedule will not allow this.  If the convenience of taking during the school day does not merit having 5 less minutes for a lesson, then please see your lesson teacher or director for the possibilities of moving to a before/after school lesson. 
 
I realize this is a slight change, but please understand that we are doing everything in our power to accommodate all of our students and our lesson staff’s extremely busy schedules.   I have spoken with the powers that be and this is a district wide issue that everyone deals with.  Per the LHHS Band Handbook, the wording is $17 per lesson so that there is some flexibility when needed, especially with odd class periods.  The standard lesson is 30 minutes, with some students requesting an hour lesson for an additional charge.  Should your child be consistently receiving less than 25 minutes during the school day, please contact your lesson teacher first, then a director if need be.
 
We have outstanding lesson teachers in our cluster and we want to do everything we can to compensate them appropriately, as well as fit as many students as we can into their busy schedules.  All of our lesson staff does a fantastic job of working out schedules to meet the students needs.  Please understand that this is their income and livelihood.  Right now, RISD lessons are $17 per lesson, but this is a real bargain for the quality of instruction that every child receives.
