Congratulations to our two newest TMEA All State Musicians: Nathaniel Corley (bassoon) and
Jack Stewart (clarinet - 2 year all state student).  These two outstanding musicians will be joining Dillon MacIntyre, all state jazz musician, February 8-11 in San Antonio, to perform as part of the TMEA All State Bands. These all state students represent the top .5% of all musicians in the state!

Weekly Reminders from Mr. Bradford:

1. PLEASE NO FOOD OR DRINK IN ANY PART OF THE BAND AREA!  NOT EVEN IN THE TUBA ROOM OR LOCKER ROOMS!  THANK YOU.  IF YOU TRY AND SNEAK IT IN, I WILL EAT IT AND MAKE YOU WATCH! 2. PASS YOUR CLASSES; this is a short six weeks, so finish your work and turn it in this week! * Go in for tutoring, make sure the teacher knows you care, turn in homework  * Ask for help every day if you need it!   * Follow through with what teachers ask you to do * Just turn in your work!!! 3. Extra Credit is being offered for objective sheets and exam grades!  See your director for details!  * ALL EXTRA CREDIT IS DUE TO YOUR BAND DIRECTOR BY 5PM TUESDAY 4. Spring Band Placement will be posted Monday/Tuesday! 5. Solos and Ensembles * Parents--all students need to have their solos and ensembles selected before the break.  Lesson Teachers do this for any student in lessons.  If they are not in lessons, they need to see a director.  Music can be ordered online at www.penders.com  * Originals are needed as well as piano parts; without the music, pianists can't start learning their part * See a director for questions!  All Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band Members are required to do a solo for chamber music.  Concert Band members can do a solo or ensemble! 6. See exam schedule for next week 7. Band Hall will be closing Thursday/Friday at 2pm.  Take your instruments home! 8. INSTRUMENTS CAN START GOING HOME FOR THE BREAK ON WEDNESDAY AFTER SCHOOL! * Directors will be taking inventory and checking to see who's instruments are left.  Please verify every student brings theirs home and uses it over the break.  Not practicing for 3 weeks can be horrible for any musician, especially aspiring high school students! * Not practicing for a musician means not using certain muscles for a stretch of time.  When this happens, these muscles weaken and are not able to function the same way!  After a break, trying to get muscles back in shape and muscle memory working again, well it takes forever and nullifies all of the work done to get to that elite level!  Parents, please encourage your children to spend some time on their instruments.  Even it's 15 minutes every other day, it's better than nothing!  They can be working on their solos/ensembles or any number of fun musical excerpts.  If they need something to work on, have them see one of their directors before the break! From all of your LHHS Band Staff, Happy Holidays and we hope your season is full of relaxation, joy, and celebration of this wonderful time of year.  As we enter the holiday season and reflect on how blessed we all are, your band directors would like to thank all of the students who work so hard every day and allow us to push them higher and higher.  Your dedication to high standards and outstanding musical heights is so very much appreciated and admired!  Parents, thank you for sharing your most precious items with us.  Being supported, encouraged, and allowed to make great music is a gift we've all been given and we are all better people because of this wonderful gift of music!  Thank you LHABC and all of the supporters of the band program.  There's no better time of year to appreciate music and be thankful for those who are so special to us!

From Ms. Johnson:

I have set up a facebook group for the band. This is because we know ALL the kids are ALWAYS on facebook, even on their phones, so it’s a sure fire way to reach them! I will attach a link to the page.  I also created a twitter account. (Facebook group) https://www.facebook.com/groups/114352508666107/Twitter info:The Lake Highlands High School Band maintains several ways to get your band information: the band website, online calendar, CHARMS, and much more. Often, when info is really important, we will email it out to the band. Unfortunately, email is sometimes an unreliable system to deliver important news and isn’t great for last minute changes or updates. Many people don’t check their email but once a day. Furthermore, students are relying less on email and more on text messaging than ever.
So, we have started the new SMS (Text Messaging) Headlines Feed. Whenever important info needs to be distributed, last minute changes arise, or important deadlines come up, we will send out an SMS to everyone enrolled in the Headlines Feed. Here are some examples of how we will use the new system.
  • Marching Rehearsal has been cancelled due to weather.
  • Reminder: Band Registration this Saturday.
  • Buses will be late. Inspection time has changed to 5:00pm.
  • It is 11:00pm and we are just leaving the stadium. Estimated return time to LHHS is now 11:45pm.
  • The band has arrived back at the band hall. Students are ready to be picked up.
Interested? Here is how to set it up!
  1. Go to www.twitter.com and set up a free account.
  2. Once you are logged in, click on “Take Twitter with you – Set up your mobile phone” in the box on the right side of the screen.
  3. Follow the instructions to set up your phone. Make sure you enter your phone number proceeded by a + and 1 (ex. +14696335630).
  4. Once your phone is set up, go to www.twitter.com/LHHSBAND
  5. Click the box that says “Follow”
  6. Click on the box that says “Following – Device Updates Off” and change the selection to “ON”
And you are all set! From now on you will receive Text Message Notifications from the LHHS Wildcat Band.

Note: Be sure to check with your cell provider to make sure text messages are covered in your phone’s service plan.
If you want to stop receiving messages from the band, simply reply to any message with OFF.
